Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management 2022 (IHEEM)
Tomorrow’s hospitals must become more efficient, eco-conscious, and human-centric. The focus for IHEEM 2022 was to convey the three pillars of a positive patient experience: improving access to care, empowering patients and families, and improving quality of life for patients and staff. Advances in hospital design could help achieve this, as could emerging technologies and human-centred approach. Colour theory played the most vital role in designing this stand, colour can alter mood and behaviours. Hospitals can be anxiety inducing for both patient and visitor, so, by tying in soft and tonal colours with natural wood elements creates a warm and welcoming feeling. Wayfinding icons are used which are universal in language and very importantly - dementia friendly*. I was responsible for orchestrating the design and sourcing of every component of the stand, encompassing not only its visual elements but also coordinating the creation of video content and all marketing collateral.
*I am a specialist in designing for dementia, using specific colours and their light reflectance values (LRV) to make key areas easy to navigate and visibly clear.
