London Craft Week 2022

My collaboration with the exceptionally talented Clara Pinto blossomed from our initial proposal at CDW. To curate items for an exhibition in the Tarkett Showroom, I proactively reached out to artisans affiliated with the crafts council, inviting them to collaborate with me. Distributing packs of various Tarkett products, I encouraged crafters to experiment and determine their interest in contributing to the event.

Clara Pinto's commitment to sustainability aligned seamlessly with Tarkett's values. Together, we identified an eco-friendly material for her to craft a bespoke rug, becoming a standout feature of the exhibition. In reciprocity, Pinto presented me with a unique challenge: she was part of London Craft Week, preceding CDW by a week. Invited to host her catwalk show at Belgravia's Argentine Ambassador's Residence, Pinto sought a contrasting, dreamlike aesthetic as the backdrop for her collection, celebrating organic British wool, traditional tailoring, and innovative degradable bioplastics.

My challenge involved sourcing the perfect product that matched sustainability, colour, and texture criteria to fashion a temporary catwalk. The material needed to be safe for models to walk on without damaging the existing floor. After numerous tests, I discovered an ideal material, sonic cut into shapes and pieced together like a puzzle, culminating in a dreamlike catwalk that perfectly complemented Pinto's visionary pieces.
